Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell! Hosted Party! Crowdtap & FX!

As a member of Crowdtap.com, I had the opportunity to host a party in honor of FX's new hit show, "Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell".   For the party I invited all of my friends and family to join me in a late-night soiree to check out the hit new show airing on FX. On August 9, 2012 at 11:00pm we got our Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on! We drank and laughed. We had a great time!

The show is hosted by W. Kamau Bell and it takes an irreverent look at the social, racial and sex-based biases in our country.  The show examines prevalent social inequities with a blunt and unyielding eye! Topics include police profiling, the hypocrisy of politics and religion, and great racial divide.

My guess loved the show!  They laughed until they cried...despite the sensitive nature of the topics. The segments were fast-paced and lively, the delivery BLUNT and BRUTAL. Just the way W. Kamau Bell intended!

We also created a little fun of our own playing the TotallyBiased Toss-Up Game provided in the TB Digital Kit.  We put our biases in a hat and tried to guess which belonged to each guest. Without giving it away, I am EMBARRASSED to admit I have friends and family who are sexist, racist, and all around bad people!

I made a short video of my own bias, which has to do with Facebook! See it here:  BIAS VIDEO

To keep the laughs flowing, Crowdtap and FX provided links to a three minute highlight of the show (in cased you missed it!) and a look into Kamau's world:

Overall, a great party to kick off a great new series! My friends were tld to 'spread the love' and blast their friends about the show via Twitter and Facebook. We should all hate less, love more and laugh often. Sometimes the best medicine for social ills is to make fun of them! Right? Thanks Crowdtap and FX for the excellent opportunity!

Crowdtap: America's Next Top Wooliteer Hosted Party!

The feel of new jeans is only topped by the fit of new jeans.  The fit like a glove, but are still sturdy and   fashionable. Some jeans costs $20 others cost $200. No matter the price we pay, we hate to see them fade to grey (unless its the eighties and we did it with acid on purpose!).  Fear strikes the heart of many women when they put their new pair of jeans into the wash for the first time. Will they still fit? Will the color run out? Will they ever be the same? The fears may seem irrational, but they have their roots in past realities...unfortunately.

Thanks to Woolite's new Extra Dark Care formula, denim and dark clothing stays looking newer, longer. Delicates, denim and dark clothes alike can take the plunge and the whirl without fear! They go into the wash looking new, they come out looking awesome!

To spread the word about Woolite's Extra Dark Care detergent, I was selected by Crowdtap  to host a Wooliteers exclusive party!  I invited ten of mt closest and most fashion forward friends and family to find out who among them was worthy of being crowned America's Next Top Wooliteer!

After enjoying some appetizers and drinks, we headed to the Living Room to get the games underway. My event consisted of three rounds: The Woolite Denim Fashion Show, The Woolite  Trivia Bowl and the Bonus Round - Wash it Off!

The Woolite Denim Fashion Show:

Candies, True Religion, Old Navy and Seven For All Mankind were put on display for our fashion show. Dark rinses, worn denim, and cut-offs were featured.  All broken in, but all loved!  Each of my guests expressed fear that their item would be ruined in the wash.  We discussed the benefits of Woolite Extra Dark Care and I assured them they could put those fears to rest.  Wear, wash, dry, repeat!

The Woolite Denim Trivia Bowl:

This was a lot of fun. One of my guests, Sienna, was all too keen to get to play the host - so I let her have at it. Animated and fun, she kept the game rolling along. My guests knew quite a bit about denim, but we all learned something. One of the most interesting facts was that we should wait 6 months to wash new denim. Another fun fact was that recycled denim is being used as building insulation.  Lastly, my guests loved hearing that the average consumer owns seven pairs of jeans! Amazing!  At the conclusion of ll rounds, the winner was Aneesa!  She is an amazing Wooliteer!

The Woolite Wash-Off!

Because temps reached over 100 degrees the day of the party, we decided to have a Woolite Wash-Off instead of wearing our jeans for any longer than we had to. We literally had to to peel them off!  We decided to wash all of the denim folks brought to the party right there on the spot! We took a field trip to my laundry room and threw our favorites into the washing machine. Cool cycle, regular agitation!  My guests found that Woolite Extra Dark Care smelled fresh and clean and had a rich texture. I reminded them that it can be used on delicates and all beloved pieces of clothing as well.

After the wash, we skipped the dryer (too hot outside and not good for our denim!) and laid our denim out to dry!  Within a few hours, our jeans and shorts were as good as new! Retained their shape, color intact and smelling fresh.  Ready to wear!  Thanks Crowdtap and Woolite!

No. My column about all things just plan wrong.

No. #1:  Taco Bell's New Beefy Nacho Burrito.  Nachos wrapped up and ready to go.

Gosh, um. Where do I start? There are so many things wrong with the Beefy Nacho Burrito. But, I'll keep it short and to the point. First, we shouldn't really be eating nachos. Ever. They're the reason entire towns in Texas are sporting spare tires. We also shouldn't be eating nachos on the go. Ever.

Next, the cheese sauce. Really? Taco Bell, you go to all the trouble to mass produce Mexican food - a diet based on beans, meats, corn, produce, and cheese - and you leave out the cheese? Really? Cheese sauce? It's almost insulting. Yes, I noticed your delicacies are filled with snack-stand cheese sauce. Just, yuck. Taco Bell you've apparently chosen to fill the 'most engineered and disgusting food' niche. I'm sad there is even a demand for it. But then again, we are a pro-wrestling watchin' nation. To be clear, there are several nasty, inexplicable doosies on the menu. The Beefy Nacho Burrito isn't alone. I'd also like to "No" the Dorritos Locos Taco and the Volcano Taco.  Is this company run by 11 year olds? The former is just gross, the latter has more red dye #40 than any human needs. In an entire lifetime.

McCormick Grill Mates Grill Ambassadors Hosted Party by Crowdtap

How much do I love summer? Beyond the bathing suits and sunsets, there's the food. BBQs to be specific. Grilled meats and vegetables, cold drinks and sides. Friends and family. It makes for the best of times! So I was thrilled to be chosen to host a McCormick Grill Mates Grill Ambassadors Party as a member of Crowdtap.com. The party was a great idea to get the word out about new and tasty McCormick's Gill Mates marinades, rubs, sauces, and spices.  I supplied the sides and people. McCormick and Crowdtap provides the flavor.

My kit included: a Gill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon BBQ Source, Grill mates Spiced Brandy & Herb Marinade, Grill Mates Slow & Low Memphis Pit BBQ Rub, Grill Mates Molasses Bacon Seasoning, Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning.  Each designed to taking grilling to the next level!

I invited my friends and family over on a sunny Saturday to give the fresh new flavors a go. We were blessed with glorious weather - perfect for a day of grilling. Knowing my friends and family, I decided to do a bit of many things.  I wanted to try each of the seasonings! I decided to pair the Memphis Pit BBQ Rub with a three pound tri tip. I also decided to drizzle a little Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce on my tri tip for good measure. I thought the Molasses Bacon Seasoning and the Montreal Steak Seasoning would go well on New York Steaks and hamburgers. Lastly, I thought Spiced Brandy and Herb would taste divine on whole chicken breasts.

The night before my party, I trimmed my tri tip roast and used the Memphis Pit BBQ Rub.  There was an ample amount in the 1.25 oz. packet, more than enough for more than 3 pounds of meat. Once coverage was complete, I wrapped the roast in saran wrap and tucked it away into the fridge.  The morning of, I hung festive decorations and made sure the drinks were on ice. I also prepared the Spiced Brandy and Herb Marinade. I found the recipe easy and decided to explore the Southern Peach option by adding peach preserves.  Once mixed, I halved the recipe and placed one half in a gallon size ziplock bag containing a pound of chicken breasts.  I sprinkled the New York steaks and hamburgers with the Montreal and the Molasses Bacon Seasoning. I placed all of the meats back into the fridge.

Memphis Pit BBQ Rub and Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce - This rub was amazing. Even though the recipe called for ribs, we love BBQ tri tip. A restaurant called Lucille's has a delicious BBQ Tri Tip and we order it every chance we get. Why not give it a try? We found texture to be rich and authentic. The seasonings were spot on Memphis BBQ. A zesty blend of onion, garlic, cinnamon and thyme.  Sweetened with Brown sugar, chili pepper provides a kick.  The layered rub also includes paprika, which gives it a deep orange hue. After grilling the tri tip on medium low for about 20 minutes, I applied a hearty layer of the Brown Sugar Bourbon Sauce.  I wanted the roast to be crisp and sweet on the edges. After letting it rest, we cut it open. It was perfect. Juicy and tender. Flavorful and savory.  The BBQ Flavor was undeniable. You'd have thought I'd simmered a sauce from scratch.  My guests loved it! "Absolutely delicious!" "This is SO good!" "Amazing tri tip!" were some of the things my guests reported. I told them about how easy the rub was to use and showed them information about the product omy iPad. They were also able to scan the packaging and find both the product and additional information on Amazon.com. Cool, right? The also loved the crisp and candied Brown Sugar Sauce edges.  I caught several people sneaking cuts of the edges. We may never have to go back to Lucille's again!

Molasses Bacon & Montreal Steak Seasonings -  The New York steaks and hamburgers sprinkled with seasonings turned out fantastically, as well.  Done medium-well, they too were juicy and tender. Even the drippings were tasty! My kids gobbled up their burgers seasoned with the Montreal Steak Seasoning. I served them with jack cheese and baby greens.  My daughter said, "They taste homemade, but better than usual." Uh, thanks I think? Those who opted for a steak, found the Molasses Bacon run gave the meat a rich, sweet and smoking flavor. My guests really appreciated the  secondary taste of bacon. A "Nice surprise!" was what one guests said. "The bacon taste is so real!" was what my friend said when I showed her the bottle.  Like the rub and sauce, my guests were able to look up additional information online using their phones or my iPad. Most used their phones right there at the table to research and post pics to Facebook! I think they were most impressed by how 'real' and 'authentic' the seasonings were - like I'd spend all day slaving away in the kitchen. Literally, in a dash I was done.

Spiced Brandy & Herb Marinade - The fragrant marinade was easy to prepare and provided more than enough for 2 lbs. of meat. After marinading the breasts for an hour or so, I grilled them with fresh vegetables. The flavor of the marinade was delicious and multidimensional.  We loved the authentic herb seasonings and the body the brand brought to the party. Deep and rich, this marinade allowed the chicken to grill slowly and evenly. Once done, the breasts were juicy and flavorful.  One guest commented that it tasted homemade. I agree, I think what I've really enjoyed out of each of the products was that they tasted like a tried and true family recipe.  All of the flavor, a fraction of the work. Brilliant!

I served my meat courses with with pasta alfredo, green beans and a cranberry salad.  Watermelon for dessert (We very, very full!). We paired the meats with red wine and IPAs for the adults.  A perfect summer day. Satiated, content and surrounded by friends and family.  I'm so happy to have had the chance to do this and to share the experience with my friends and family. I love to serve them great food and McCormick's made it so easy!. My friends and I discovered five new flavors for the meats we eat everyday. That's exciting! McCormick's Grill Mates are a great way to bring take any cut of meat in a savory, sweet and well-seasoned direction! My friends and family fell in love - I hope you do to! Find them in your grocer's spice aisle. Thanks Crowdtap & McCormick's - BBQ meals done easy and right!
